October 2012 Yavoh
The term October Surprise often refers to political campaign tactics occurring just before the November presidential elections. This is an election year here in the United States, and you should be expecting some kind of October Surprise given how close the race for President is. The political campaigns will be pulling out all the stops to win the election in early November. Some have suggested that an October Surprise could be a strange event (such as a false flag event, state of emergency, etc.) occurring to skew the election one way or the other. There is genuine apprehension about this as we approach this month.
The world itself is on the brink of many bad things, and this month could have its own October Surprise for the world. War in the Middle East between Israel and its neighbors is imminent. (It may have already happened by the time you read this.) A war in the Middle East could be the October Surprise for the U.S. presidential elections. The United States has a tendency to rally around the President when a war breaks out. Some believe that a Middle East war could help President Obama in his re-election bid. Whether that is true or not is not known for sure. Presently, President Obama is doing everything in his power to keep Israel from attacking Iran, believing that the war would interfere with his re-election campaign.
As we approach the elections, there is no question that the United States voters are split down the middle. Most pundits believe that there is a very small group of undecided voters and each side has hard-core support. All summer, the election has been too close to call. The determinant will be several toss-up states (possibly seven).
You have heard the expression that “a house divided against itself cannot stand.” There is a very good chance that the election will not heal the nation, but instead, deepen the divide. Some are even suggesting that it will lead to widespread civil unrest and violent protests. The man who predicted the breakup of the former Soviet Union has made a similar prediction for the United States. It will be interesting to see how the media reports all this in October. They could try to pull their own October Surprise to tip the scales. Let me explain why.
At an ideological level, progressives and liberals are adamantly opposed to conservative thinking. The vast majority of the media at the national level are admittedly liberal and progressive. Very few conservative reporters survive in that environment. The media challenges conservatives on the subject of the First Amendment “freedom of speech.” The media has a lot of control in how well a voice is heard. The media can simply not report a story and effectively muffle a conservative voice, so voters hear only one side. Conservatives see the other side as moving away from traditional values, moving toward socialism, with bigger government (more government employment and more people on government entitlements). Liberals think the government is the solution; conservatives see government as the problem. Conservatives, for the most part, are comfortable with “freedom of religion,” whereas progressives view religious thought as “hateful” and offensive to “equal rights.” Believe it or not, at the heart of this conflict are the issues of homosexuality and the definition of marriage. The media favors the liberal progressive position and is not afraid to show their disdain for traditional American values. They truly regard the majority of Americans with traditional, conservative values as living in “small town America” and being backwards, bigoted, unsophisticated, uncultured, racist dimwits.
Homosexuals have successfully brought their cause to the public, defining it as an “equal rights” issue and stereotyping any opponent as “homophobic.” Most religious groups see the subject of homosexuality as part of the discussion about sexual promiscuity (they disagree with the behavior of homosexuals and lesbians along with adulterers, fornicators, pedophiles, those committing incest, and other aberrant sexual behaviors). All of these sexual behaviors are forbidden in the commandments of God, however, the homosexual agenda wants all religious values and laws to have no part in civil government. They want complete separation from religion in the public square and dialogue.
Not only has the government (the courts) overruled the majority of the citizens who have voted on this issue, but some judges have also decided to redefine the laws of marriage in various states. This is very troubling for many conservative citizens, as the Constitution explicitly forbids the government from establishing or infringing on the rights of any religion. Marriage is a religious law; not a civil law, but the media refuses to allow that fact to be part of the public discussion.
In recent years, the government has, at numerous times and in differing ways, circumvented the Constitution to the extent that many citizens see the Constitution as obsolete, powerless, and no longer relevant. Liberals tend to regard the Constitution as a historical document only, a living document that must be changed to address modern times. The executive branch of government has begun to skirt the legislature by executive order and regulations written by the various executive departments. The judicial branch has overruled the legislative branch and the executive branch, making new laws and procedures for carrying out the law of the land. At times the executive branch has refused to enforce existing laws on the books. Every bit of this is contrary to the “checks and balances” established by the Constitution. The Constitution no longer protects individual citizens from the future tyranny of the government. Individual citizens are beginning to sense this and a sense of apprehension has set in.
On that subject, the Department of Homeland Security now believes that the greatest threat to the United States government is not foreign terrorists, but American citizens, especially those ones who hold onto their Bibles and their guns. DHS is preparing to deal with civil unrest and completely suspend the Constitution should a state of emergency be declared.
All of this conflict and tension simply adds to the threshold of whichever October Surprise scenario may occur.
Let’s shift gears from speaking about our government and consider the world view what could happen. There may be an even bigger October Surprise in store for us, compliments of the Lord. Earlier, I mentioned that there is talk of Israel striking Iran to stop its nuclear weapons program. This subject has been continually in the news for the last two years. I have been warning the brethren for some time to watch for the war to happen soon. Whether Israel strikes Iran or the enemies of Israel decide to strike Israel matters little. What does matter is whether this war will fulfill certain prophecies.
There are a number of very powerful and detailed prophecies about such a regional war involving Israel, Iran, Syria, and Lebanon. Some of the prophecies speak of the type of warfare and some speak of the aftermath of the war. Let me quickly summarize. The war will include an invasion from the north into the mountains of Israel, commonly called the West Bank. Hezbollah in Lebanon brags that they will attack northern Israel, including the Galilee. The West Bank is just to the south where Palestinians reside today. If that happens, Israel will be in trouble, however, the God of Israel will show up for this war. The result will be devastating to Israel’s enemies and a triumphant victory for Israel. Sounds good, right?
Not so quick. Let’s examine what Israel and the Lord may actually do. The world would deny the Lord played any part in the war. The prophet Joel says that this war is really about answering some questions about the God of Israel. Is there really a God of Israel dating back to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob? Is the land of Israel really the promised land belonging to the God of Israel? Or, is the Bible an ancient story that we tell our children with no applicable reality in the day we live?
The prophet Joel speaks of these events leading to the end of the ages and the day of the Lord as he addresses the questions we just asked.
Blow a trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm on My holy mountain! Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble, for the day of the Lord is coming; surely it is near, a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and thick darkness. As the dawn is spread over the mountains, so there is a great and mighty people; there has never been anything like it, nor will there be again after it to the years of many generations. JOEL 2:1-2
The prophecies of a northern army being defeated by God are the preamble battle to the Day of the Lord. In other words, if this regional war satisfies the prophecies, it signals that we are about to see the end of the ages and the Day of the Lord very soon!
Let the priests, the Lord’s ministers, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say, “Spare Your people, O Lord, and do not make Your inheritance a reproach, a byword among the nations. Why should they among the peoples say, ‘Where is their God?’” JOEL 2:17
As I said, the regional war is not about Iran building nuclear weapons, despite the rhetoric we are hearing from all sides. It is not about getting rid of Zionists. It is to answer the questions, “Is there a God of Israel? Does that God own the promised land of Israel?” Here is God’s answer.
Then the Lord will be zealous for His land, and will have pity on His people. And the Lord will answer and say to His people, “Behold, I am going to send you grain, new wine, and oil, and you will be satisfied in full with them; and I will never again make you a reproach among the nations. But I will remove the northern army far from you, and I will drive it into a parched and desolate land, and its vanguard into the eastern sea, and its rear guard into the western sea. And its stench will arise and its foul smell will come up, for it has done great things.” JOEL 2:18-20
Joel seems to indicate that there will be a turning of the enemy that results in their defeat. When the enemies invaded, they were heading south, but this prophecy says that enemy will be forced to turn toward the east (toward Jordan) resulting in their rear flank facing the Mediterranean Sea.
Do not fear, O land, rejoice and be glad, for the Lord has done great things… So rejoice, O sons of Zion, and be glad in the Lord your God; for He has given you the early rain for your vindication. And He has poured down for you the rain, the early and latter rain as before. Thus you will know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the Lord your God and there is no other; and My people will never be put to shame. JOEL 2:21,23,27
In describing God’s victory, the prophecy gives a very powerful clue as to part of it. God will give the early rain for your vindication. The early rain is the rains coming in the fall. At the Feast of Tabernacles, we actually pray for the early rains. This year, Tabernacles begins on October 1, and traditionally, the prophecy of Ezekiel 38 -39 is taught at that time.
In the buildup to this regional war coming to the Middle East, there has been much said about how Israel, Iran, Hezbollah in Lebanon, the Palestinians in Gaza, and Syria would fight this war. The enemies of Israel have numerous rockets and missiles, thousands of them. Some of these missiles qualify as ICBMs flying a thousand miles or more (such as from Iran to Israel). The sheer number of these weapons could be devastating to Israel. Some are accurately aimed; most are just ballistic and fly to an area, thus the reason why so many are fired.
Israel, on the other hand, has been developing anti-missile capabilities such as “Iron Dome” and the “Arrow” missile interceptor. From a military science standpoint, this will not be the answer to Israel’s defense. All the enemy needs to do is launch more missiles than the anti-missile shield can handle. The enemies of Israel can easily overwhelm Israel’s defenses. Israel will have to do something much more substantial.
You may also know that Israel’s air force is one of the best in the world. There has been much speculation of Israel flying over to Iran and bombing their nuclear facilities to slow down Iran’s program. Israel did this same thing on June 7, 1981, to destroy an Iraqi nuclear power plant and a Syrian nuclear power plant on September 6, 2007. Everyone is expecting that Israel will do the same against Iran, but to do so, Israel would have to fly a very long distance over Jordan, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia just to get there. Saudi Arabia said they would shoot down any Israeli aircraft over their airspace. Even more difficult would be the refueling needed to bring the aircraft back. Should any Israeli aircraft be shot down, the rescue of the pilots would be near to impossible. In military terms, it doesn’t look good for Israel.
So, what can Israel do against Iran? Recent analytic reports have leaked other scenarios of what Israel can do, but it would be shocking to the world. When I read it, it shocked me!?! It would come as fire from heaven and the world would probably think it was too drastic. Let me explain.
Israel has other weapons besides their superior air force. The “Jericho missile” can carry a nuclear weapon. Israel has been developing what are called “miniature nukes.” These are kiloton devices as opposed to megaton weapons of other nations. According to some reports, Israel is considering the use of these as EMP weapons. Let me explain. EMP (electromagnetic pulse) is the natural result of a nuclear detonation. We get the same thing from the sun in a solar flare. A low altitude burst of a low yield weapon over Iran would be like putting a massive solar flare over Iran. The blast wouldn’t do that much physical damage, but the EMP would destroy everything electrical or electronic for the full line of sight of the weapon. That means that the power grid, the telephone system, the internet, every computer, radio and TV stations, medical equipment, machines using electronics including automobiles and airplanes, military equipment such as their missiles and weapons would be dead in Iran. It would be “lights out.”
According to various intelligence reports, the key to changing Iran’s direction and NOT build a nuclear weapon is to change the leadership. Therefore, part of Israel’s attack would be to kill every Iranian leader. A cruise missile attack could be dispatched to destroy every home, office, and compound where the leadership might be. We are talking about an attack that would take less than 15 minutes to execute once the lights go out.
But we are talking about an attack that would shock the world. It might just be too much for world leaders to accept. Most likely, Israel would be classified as the aggressor and become the pariah of the world. So what else is new?
Recently, the U.S. Secretary of Defense and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs (top military officer in the U.S.) stated that Israel could hope to set back Iran’s nuclear program but not stop it. This was an effort directed by President Obama to suppress Israel’s desire to deal with Iran before the elections. However, a former top Israeli air force officer said this in response.
“The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said this week that in his opinion Israel will not be able to destroy Iran’s nuclear installations, but I think he isn’t totally in the know about what Israeli forces are capable of. The Americans don’t know everything about us.”
This says that even the President and the United States military may be in for an October Surprise.
Turning back to the prophecy, let us take note of how dramatic the aftermath of the war is in this prophecy. Those questions about the God of Israel are answered. Thus you will know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the Lord your God and there is no other.
For years, we have heard the Muslims chanting “Allah Akbar!” The expression is often translated “Allah is Great” or “Allah is Greater.” It is also a proclamation against the God of the Jews, the God of Israel. Some Islamic leaders have gone further, slandering and blaspheming the God of Israel. The world has watched and wondered themselves, “I wonder if the God of Bible is no more or ever was. He probably does not care about His Name, His people, or His land anymore.”
What is worse, many Western leaders do not see Islam as a religion at all. They see it as a political system, like democracy or communism. Whenever they hear the religious chants, they consider it only as cultural expression (something to rally the followers of Islam together). They are very mistaken. The Muslims mean it and the breadth of their mistake will become apparent when the God of Israel measures our His judgment upon the Muslims, proving there is no other god but Him. And, the land of Israel belongs to Him as well.
The prophet Ezekiel also speaks of the same war that Joel spoke of. He also speaks of the aftermath this way.
And I shall set My glory among the nations; and all the nations will see My judgment which I have executed, and My hand which I have laid on them. And the house of Israel will know that I am the Lord their God from that day onward. EZE 39:21-22
This is a dramatic shift from the days that we have been living in. The world ignores the God of Israel and, sadly, many in Israel do the same. But if this victory occurs that will all change! God goes on to describe this new way of seeing Him, especially how believers will see Him.
“And I will not hide My face from them any longer, for I shall have poured out My Spirit on the house of Israel,” declares the Lord God. EZE 39:29
Even Joel expresses the same results after the world knows there is a God in the midst of Israel.
And it will come about after this that I will pour out My Spirit on all mankind; and your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. JOEL 2:28
Let me tell you about the October Surprise that I would like to see happen.
Yes, I want to see a great victory by Israel over their enemies. I want to see the God of Israel be revealed to the whole world. I want to see what happens after that war! The October Surprise for me would be God pouring out His Spirit on all believers, to hear everyone prophesying that the Great Tribulation with the Day of the Lord is coming. This is the kind of shocking reality that my brethren need to be part of and take the Lord seriously.
Maybe then, my brethren will be like the wise virgins who got extra oil for their lamps. As we all know, it is in Jerusalem that the signs of the end will come. Yeshua told us to watch for the prophecies of Daniel (the abomination of desolation). This will then indicate the final days have come, that the days are numbered until the kingdom. The prophecy says we will be blessed to see the 1,335th day after the altar is shut down. With a war this fall, the altar could easily be built in Jerusalem. How about at this Hanukkah (the Feast of Dedication)? That would mean that we cannot look past this winter for the shutting down of the altar and the beginning of the countdown.
We have seen shocking events in our generation, such as 9/11 and the collapse of world trade center towers. The events of the war coming in the Middle East could grip the world in a similar manner.
I know this is a lot to happen this fall and winter, and I do not know if it will take place this year, but, I do know this. The God of Israel is true and His words will be fulfilled. The day is coming when He will manifest Himself in a very powerful way, as He has done in the past.
It is just my desire to be found as a faithful servant to Him, waiting expectantly for the Master. You will just have to forgive me if I urge you to prepare for the coming the Lord and He decides to come a little later. But if you don’t prepare and the events do happen, then you will suffer much worse than any harm from preparing early. Noah was scorned and ridiculed as he prepared the ark. Yeshua said the last days would be like the days of Noah – they didn’t understand, but Noah prepared.
The Lord does not scorn those who desire to see His coming and prepare. He is angry with those who scorn those who prepare and mock His coming.
An October Surprise of the type that fulfills prophecy would be wonderful! But even if that doesn’t happen, I will continue to prepare for whatever surprise He has for the world.
